POSITION SUMMARY
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of the City s Wastewater Collection System.; performs other duties as required or assigned.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of the City s wastewater collection system. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Collections Systems Supervisor and/or other assigned supervisors, other City employees, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in an outdoors environment with exposure to the hazardous gases and materials found in a sewer collection system.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
o
Inspects, maintains and repairs the sanitary sewer collection system and sanitary collection system lines to ensure safe and efficient operation, including inspecting lines, manhole, and lift station to determine necessary maintenance and repair using complex equipment including television equipment to inspect new and existing lines.
o
Operates a variety of complex sewer line cleaning equipment, including the hydrocleaning truck and other related equipment to remove debris from collection system lines, television inspection devices, and other related tools and equipment as required.
o
Maintains sewer line cleaning equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation, including basic maintenance and repair of television equipment, hydrocleaner pumps, pump control panels, and other related as required.
o
Provides inspection, preventive maintenance, and repair of sewer lift stations throughout the City, including inspecting pumps and motors, checking meters, lubricating parts, packing pumps, and completing maintenance reports as required.
o
Provides information to contractors, the general public, and other utility representatives regarding underground line locations as requested.
o
Ensures public and operational safety, including coordinating with other City services and addresses Citizen''s complaints or problems, provides requested information, and/or takes the appropriate measures to ensure an expedient resolution of citizen satisfaction.
o
Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Thorough knowledge of the basic principles and practices of underground pipeline maintenance and repair including some knowledge of the practices and procedures for repairing underground lines and fittings, including the basic operation of construction equipment for underground work.
Thorough knowledge of the basic principles of pump operation and preventive maintenance.
Thorough knowledge of the operation, preventive maintenance, and cleaning of collection system lines, lift stations, and related facilities.
Thorough knowledge of the safe and proper use of television line inspection equipment, hydrocleaning truck, hydrovactor, and other related maintenance and repair equipment.
Thorough knowledge of the safety principles, practices, and equipment related to the work including knowledge of the safe and proper use of basic hand and power tools related to the work. Thorough knowledge of basic shop mathematics and basic plan and map reading.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Ability to perform strenuous physical labor over extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
Ability to efficiently read and interpret plans and maps.
Ability to safely and efficiently operate hand and power tools, vehicles, and related maintenance equipment.
Ability to practice safe work practices and make proper use of assigned safety equipment as required.
Ability to serve as an on-call employee for collections (after hours, evenings, holidays and weekends).

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required

Experience:
1 plus years of experience in maintenance and repair of a sewer collection system
Or any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Computer Skills:
Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks and the ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.


Certifications &
Licenses:

Valid Idaho State Commercial Driver s License.
Idaho Collection System Class I certification.



Other Requirements:
Must live within a thirty-minute response time of the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Have or obtain a residence phone within 30 days of employment.
