Role Statement for Accounting Specialist I:
The City of Nampa's Finance Department is looking for a motivated employee to perform a wide variety of administrative support, technical accounts processing, and financial recording duties.
The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform a wide variety of administrative support, technical accounts processing, and financial recording duties.
The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.
The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the department directors, staff, and the general public.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING ROLE SUCCESS PROFILE Key Job Accountabilities:
Maintains checking accounts, receipt books, and financial files in accordance with established policies and procedures and generates financial reports and other related documents at specified time intervals as directed.
Establishes new customer accounts in accordance with prescribed guidelines, including processing and reviewing service usage information; generating and mailing billings at scheduled time intervals; maintaining and balancing account ledgers; and reconciling statements, invoices, and other payment requests, cash receipts, and year-end reports as required in an accurate and timely manner.
Monitors adherence to proper policies and procedures at all stages of accounts payable and performs purchase order and invoice functions, including verifying purchase orders and invoices with account numbers, recording requisitions, and entering information into the accounts payable system.
Performs clerical functions as required, including but not limited to answering phones and patrons' questions regarding detailed programmatic knowledge of departmental operations and preparing correspondence.
Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned.
Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.
Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.

Education, Experience Level, and Certification Requirements:
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED):
Required 1 plus year of experience in Related Accounting or Bookkeeping or any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks and the ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
Ability to use a 10-key, Copy/Fax Machine, and other office machines as needed.
Knowledge:
Some knowledge of bookkeeping, accounting, and purchasing functions, including reviewing, posting, balancing, and reconciling complex financial records.
Some knowledge of the policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of Nampa City and the Finance Department.
Skills/Abilities:

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
