The Idaho Dept. of Juvenile Corrections is seeking applications for a Special Education Instructor Specialist
in our Juniper Hills School located in our Juvenile Corrections Center in Nampa!
We have an immediate opening for 2 Special Education Instructor Specialists at the Juvenile Corrections Center - Nampa.

The Juniper Hills School at IDJC is a special purpose school accredited through the AdvancED/Northwest Accreditation Commission. Curriculum offered for credit towards high school graduation is standards-aligned, often using the same texts that our counterpart public schools use. Juniper Hills School requires a minimum of 46 credits for graduation. Some juveniles also prepare to take GED tests or complete requirements for their High School Equivalency (HSE). This is a professional teaching position in a year-round school. The Instructor Specialist teaches classes for and supervises students 10 to 20 years old who typically have not achieved their educational potential in previous school settings.
The incumbent hired for this position is required to obtain the Juvenile Corrections Direct Care Staff Certificate through the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Academy within 12 months of hire date. See POST Requirements below.
The Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections has regionalized state services for juveniles committed to its custody, making it possible for most juveniles to remain close enough to their communities so parents and other key community members can take part in the juvenile's treatment. State juvenile correctional centers are located in Lewiston, Nampa, and St. Anthony and provide a full complement of services for 268 youth who range from 10 to 20 years of age.
Nampa is located just minutes from the capital city of Boise in southwestern Idaho. Small student to teacher ratio of 12:1. This equates to approximately 12 juveniles in a classroom at one time.

Responsibilities:
Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates specialized educational programs.
Provides leadership, direction and consultation to instruction assistants and treatment staff.
Provides individual and group instruction in academic or vocational areas to youth in a rehabilitation/treatment setting.
Provides individualized instruction using a differentiated approach and positive behavior supports.
Develops individualized educational objectives; plans and outlines specific coursework.
Collaborates with the treatment team regarding student progress and educational treatment goals.
Encourages and motivates students in developing self-esteem, academic competencies and vocational skills.
Instructs in living skills, fosters protection of individual rights, and ensures student safety and positive interactions.
GENERAL INFORMATION:

This position requires a Special Education/Exceptional Child K/12 endorsement.
A complete criminal history background investigation including, but not limited to, the Idaho State Police Criminal Identification Bureau and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare will be conducted on the successful applicant.
The Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections is a drug-free work environment. Immediately after a conditional offer of employment has been extended to an applicant (before 5:00 p.m. of the day of the offer ), he or she must test free of drugs as a condition of employment.

MINIMUM
Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, you must hold an Idaho Elementary or Secondary Certificate AND an Idaho Exceptional Child Certificate, in accordance with State Department of Education certification standards, or have recently graduated with a degree in Education and are eligible for certification. If you do not have the Idaho certification but have an equivalent certificate from another state you will need to contact the Idaho State Department of Education and verify that you are eligible for certification in Idaho.
Willingness to: deal with violence, harassment, threats, verbal abuse; break up fights, control disturbances; perform routine searches for weapons, tools, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or other contraband; work alone and unarmed among unrestricted offenders; work in confined spaces; work in high-stress and sometimes hostile environments. Physical requirements of the job are addressed in the exam.
POST ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. Citizenship.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
High school diploma or GED (although POST requires this level of education; to qualify for the position of Instructor Specialist applicants MUST have at least a BA or BS degree in Education from an accredited college or university.)
Two years of post-high school responsible experience.
No felony convictions.
No DUI convictions within the last two years.
No convictions of crimes of deceit, drugs, or sex crimes within the last 5 years.

A complete criminal history background investigation including, but not limited to, the Idaho State Police Criminal Identification Bureau, FBI, and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare will be conducted on the successful applicant. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
