SUMMARY
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs a variety of routine manual and semi-skilled landscape construction, maintenance and
repair
work in an assigned area of responsibility, and/or serves as the lead worker over an assigned maintenance crew; performs other duties as required or assigned.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The principal function of an
employee
in this class is to perform a variety of routine manual and semi-skilled construction, maintenance and repair work in an assigned area of responsibility to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for City residents. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other City employees, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in an outdoor environment in a variety of terrains and weather conditions with exposure to airborne pathogens and chemicals.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
o
Performs the full range of manual and semi-skilled landscape construction, maintenance and repair work in an assigned area of responsibility.
o
Instructs or leads the work of an assigned maintenance crew and/or seasonal workers to ensure the safe and efficient completion of all work assignments.
o
Maintains and repairs City parks, cemetery, golf course. pathways, and trails. Builds, repairs and erects appropriate signage as required.
o
Maintains and repairs light and heavy equipment and maintenance tools and equipment as necessary.
o
Mows, trims, waters, fertilizes, and maintains lawns, parks, cemetery and golf course facilities.
o
Maintains City drainage and sprinkler systems, including building, installing, cleaning and repairing drainage and sprinkler structures.
o
Maintains City pathways and trails to comply with safety and regulations.
o
Secures assigned work areas from hazards to ensure the safety of recreational participants, maintenance crews and the general public, including directing and flagging traffic.
o
Maintains parks, cemetery, golf facilities and City grounds in clean and safe conditions, including picking up trash, maintaining sunken grounds, tree and shrub pruning, weeding, spraying, plowing, sanding and snow removal and general maintenance as necessary.
o
Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned and attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
Substantial knowledge of basic principles and practices of landscape construction, maintenance, and repair activities, including parks, golf course and cemetery facilities, and drainage and sprinkler systems.
Substantial knowledge of proper maintenance of parks, cemeteries and recreation facilities and landscaped areas including the safe and proper use of related chemicals and pesticides.
Substantial knowledge of the safe and proper use of basic hand tools, power tools and equipment used in construction, maintenance, repair and landscaping work.

Education:
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required
Experience:
1 plus years of experience in Maintenance Experience
Or any work experience related to functional area of assignment or any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
